Medical Transcription Supplies
There are only a few supplies that you will need to get started in the medical transcription business. Most of the medical transcription supplies you will need to get started will be supplied by your employer.
If you are starting your own business you will need at least the following supplies. One of the most important medical transcription supplies that you will need are medical dictionaries. Each medical specialty has its own vocabulary. If you plan on transcribing for different types of doctors then you will need different dictionaries. An alternative to dictionaries is to use software that allows you to look up terms. The advantage of using software is that you can update the dictionary for various specialties, so as you add new clients you can add the new dictionary.
You will also need digital recorders and recording equipment. Since you will be typing at the same time you are listing you will need a foot pedal to stop the tape or recording. Foot pedals are fairly inexpensive and extremely helpful. You will also need software that provides medical abbreviations.
There are many things that will make your job as a medical transcriptionist easier but the above are essential. Other supplies you might want to consider are desk, chairs, stationary, billing software, and doctor mailing lists.
